Stuart Penman | Curriculum and Extended Opportunities | Music

I have been part of music in education since 2005. I gained a Bachelor degree (hons) in Education from the University of Worcester in 2010. I started in mainstream primary and since 2010, in special education as the music lead. I am committed to ensuring that music is accessible and available to all children, regardless of their ability, condition or disability. I founded and successfully run an annual music festival, which sees most of the specials schools and some mainstream schools, coming together to showcase their music making abilities and to applaud their peers in a safe and non-judgmental space. I have established a disabilities Open Orchestra within my school. The orchestra uses music technology and real instruments to compose and perform.

In 2016, I successfully became one of the first students to gain the Certificate of Music Educators qualification from Trinity College of Music in London. I am currently studying to become a song therapist and I'm due to qualify in 2023.

I have recently been commissioned by the Plymouth Music Education Hub as the SEND Music Lead and is on the board of trustees for the Hub.
