Mayflower Community Academy

After School Club (BETA)

Vision

Our After School Club offers a calmpurposeful end to the school day. Children have time to playcreate and connect in a safe environment that supports regulation and wellbeing. Sessions draw on our Village of Curiosity ethos, inspired by permaculture principles of caring for people, caring for the earth and sharing fairly. Children help look after the spaces and materials while enjoying engaging, seasonal activities.

Behaviour and well-being

The club uses positive relationships and clear routines to build confidence and self-regulation. The focus is on connection, kindness and co-regulation. Families are contacted promptly if staff need to discuss behaviour or wellbeing. Staff and pupils reference our Positive Learning Behaviour and Self-Esteem policy to ensure pupils are supported to self-regulate and behave appropriately inline with expectations.

As part of developing the permaculture strand of the curriculum, the after-school club embraces our Permaculture Promises. These have been developed alongside pupils and staff and resonate throughout our school culture:

1. Speak kindly, even with big emotions

2. Listen with respect

3. Help each other

4. Use hands, feet, and words for good

5. Take responsibility and apologise

6. Be honest and trustworthy

7. Look after space, tools, and nature

8. Stay calm and grounded

9. Stand up for what’s right

10. Grow together, learning with open hearts and minds
