MFL Extended Opportunities
Extending the MFL offer
MFL Extended Opportunities are given to add breadth and depth to key concepts that are taught across the curriculum. They also extend these concepts beyond the curriculum itself.
Extended Opportunities are mapped as:

2. Extension of the Primary Curriculum and linking into KS3 - Transition activities
3. Extension of communication opportunities linking experience to a wider variety of audiences. These include a) in person, b) through pen pals.
4. Extension of MFL learning through language celebration days - European day of languages.

KS3 Link - Expert Visitor and transition

KS3 Link - Communication opportunities
Year 6
In Person | Letter Writing
Why this and why now? To share and celebrate pupils' learning with KS3 students. This is achieved through a transition lesson and through written letters. To make links with other schools as well as offer a new audience who are outside the school community.
The children received a collection of letters written in French from Year 7 pupils. The then wrote a series of replies giving them the opportunity to practise their written French skills and composition.
European Day of Languages
Whole school
Why this and why now? To share and celebrate a range of languages spoken around the world and in our school community. An opportunity to explore other countries and for children to be experts and share their own languages with their peers.
26th September
On the 26th September 2024, we celebrated European Languages Day. Children were able to share their own languages and teach their peers phrases. We also received postcards from a variety of countries and as individual classes we researched those countries and the languages spoken there.
