Megan Carver | PR and Making Stars
Podcast
Intro
Hi Megan - it is fantastic to see you. Thank you for giving us your time and being brave.
Today on the @MadeInMayflowerMedia Podcast, we’re joined by someone who’s helped shape the sound, look, and feel of popular culture over the past 25 years — Megan Carver. Named one of the UK’s Top 10 Entertainment Publicists by PR Week, Megan has helped launch superstars, bring women’s football into the mainstream, and produce unforgettable cultural moments.
She began her career as a producer at BBC Radio 1, went on to become Marketing Director at Sony Music UK, and then founded her own award-winning agency, Carver PR. Her company now works across music, sport, books, podcasts, and more — from major festivals to number-one albums.
Megan also shares her knowledge through talks, media appearances, and mentoring. We’re thrilled to have her with us to inspire the next generation of creative thinkers here at Mayflower!
Q1.
Let’s start at the beginning — What first drew you to the world of media and PR?
Q2.
Hi Megan. It is great to meet you. You’ve worked with global stars and helped create cultural moments. What’s one campaign or project that you’re most proud of?
Q3.
Your company Carver PR spans so many different areas — music, sport, books, podcasts — how do you decide which projects to take on and what made you start again and work for yourself? You are very brave!
Q4.
Hi Megan - me again. Sorry if you have already answered this, but so many of our guests have been brave and started their own thing after trying working for someone else. How did your experience at BBC Radio 1 and Sony Music UK prepare you to run your own PR agency?
Q5.
This one is right up my street. Girls Football. You're already my hero. You helped bring women’s football into the media spotlight. What made that campaign successful?
Q6.
PR isn’t always glamorous — how do you handle pressure or crisis situations, especially with public figures? What advice could you give us about how to handle pressure?
Q7.
What do you think makes a great PR professional today — especially for students interested in this kind of career? Do we have a chance in this industry or will everything go to AI? This is something that we are chatting more and more about - especially to your pal Sam Steele. She was great as well.
Q8.
You’ve spoken at big events like Ad Week and The Podcast Show — why is it important for you to share your knowledge? How do we get into big events and share our learning? We call this, publishing beyond our postcode. Getting out there and getting great feedback. Learning new things beyond our classrooms. How do we get out there just like you have?
Q9.
Following on from the last question, what advice would you give to young people who want to work in music, media, or PR but aren’t sure where to start?
10.
We learn that everyone needs role models. It is a big thing in our schools. They help to shape our thinking and influence how we see ourselves in the world. Who or what inspired you and modelled what was possible - especially in the world of media?
Q11.
Last one from us for now — if you could give your teenage self one piece of advice, what would it be?
Outro
Megan, thank you so much for joining us on the @MadeInMayflowerMedia Podcast. You’ve given us a real behind-the-scenes look at a fascinating industry — and shown how storytelling, hard work, and heart can lead to incredible things.
