A Musical Journey: Our KS2 Pupils and the Clarinet

Over the past nine months, seven of our KS2 pupils have embarked on an exciting musical journey, learning to play the clarinet. Every Wednesday after school, these dedicated students have gathered for group instrumental tuition, showing remarkable commitment by also practising at home.
Throughout this period, the pupils have tackled a diverse repertoire of songs. Starting with simpler pieces, they gradually progressed to more challenging compositions, building their stamina and endurance. This progression has significantly boosted their confidence, not just in their clarinet playing but also in their overall music lessons.
One of the most rewarding aspects has been watching the pupils apply the knowledge they've gained in their main music lessons to their clarinet practice. Their understanding of rhythm syllables for different note types and lengths has been instrumental in helping them learn new songs quickly and efficiently.
As a result of their hard work, the children are now beginning to read sheet music without needing the notes written on the page. This skill will undoubtedly enhance their future success in all music lessons. Despite the challenges that come with learning a new instrument, our pupils have approached them with enthusiasm and a positive attitude, making their lessons both fun and rewarding.
It's truly inspiring to witness their growth and dedication, and we look forward to seeing how their musical talents continue to flourish.
